How to get hell out of your house | Jentezen Franklin
Sunday, August 16
What do you do when the enemy starts stealing the peace under your own roof? Pastor Jentezen teaches how to take back your spiritual authority, evict the enemy and invite God’s protection into every room of your home.
Key Verses
Leviticus 14:34-53; Isaiah 4:5; Psalm 133:1-3; II Timothy 3:1-2; Joshua 24:15; James 3:16
Key Points
- Check the walls. Examine your house. There is not enough wallpaper or paint to cover up what the devil is doing behind the walls of your home. The devil wants God’s glory out of your house, marriage, and family. Every once in a while, it’s time to clean the house. Don’t let the devil run you out of your house; run him out!
- Consecrate your home with the blood of Jesus Christ. There are lightning rods that allow the devil into your home. And when you let the devil in, there will never be any peace. You need the blood of Jesus Christ to make your home holy ground. Clean your house with Holy Ghost Fabuloso as the priest of your home.
- Don’t allow compromise in your house. Don’t go back to what God delivered you from. Don’t run around with immoral company; you’re not strong enough to affect them without them affecting you.
- Speak the right words in your house. The power of life and death is in your tongue. Speak life and blessings, not curses.
- Don’t allow rebellion in your home. Don’t allow your children to talk however they want. Homes that tolerate rebellion invite rotting.
- Anoint your house. Get oil and anoint your house, speak peace and blessing over it, and give back to God what He gave to you. If there is anything attached to demonic forces or inviting the devil into your home, get it out.
- Serve communion in your house. Examine yourself before you take communion. It’s the meal that fills, heals, and kills.
Introduction
Today we’re reflecting on Jentezen Franklin’s message, “How to Get Hell Out of Your House.” Pastor Franklin takes us to Leviticus, where God gives instructions about dealing with disease—not only in people, but also in houses.
The concern was mold or contamination in a home that, if left untreated, could spread and affect the people living there. The Israelites were instructed to examine the house, identify the evidence of contamination, and take action through the priests to address the problem.
While these commands addressed real physical concerns in the houses the Israelites inherited from the Canaanites, they also give us a powerful picture of spiritual examination. We are challenged to look honestly at the spiritual condition of our homes and families. What evidence of spiritual sickness or sin might be present? Could some of what we are dealing with have been passed down or deposited into our lives by others?
This study gives us an opportunity to examine our own lives and households and, more importantly, to consider the biblical steps we can take to identify and address anything that is spiritually unhealthy.
This week we will dig into:
LET’S START THE DISCUSSION:
- What stood out to you in this past Sunday’s message?
- Have you ever consecrated your house? Why or why not?
Recognizing the streaks
In Leviticus 14, God gave Moses and Aaron a strange but powerful instruction. When the people of Israel entered the land of Canaan and began living in houses they did not build, God said He would sometimes put a leprous plague in a house. The priest was to go in and examine the walls. If he found greenish or reddish streaks that appeared to be deep in the wall, it was a sign that something far more serious was present than surface mold or dirt.
These streaks were not just a physical problem. They were a picture of spiritual contamination. The previous inhabitants had worshiped demon gods. Many had hidden their gold idols inside the walls so Israel would not find them. Even though the new owners could not see what was buried behind the plaster, God could. The green and red streaks were God’s way of revealing what was hidden so the house could be cleansed.
The same principle still applies to our homes today.
We can paint over problems, put up beautiful wallpaper, and look fine from the street. But God sees behind the walls. He sees the secret compromises, the ongoing strife, the unforgiveness, the occult influences, and the open doors we have allowed. What looks clean on the outside can still carry spiritual “leprosy” on the inside.
Isaiah 4:5 (KJV) “And the Lord will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion… a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence.”
Application
God is not content to have His presence only in the church building. He wants His glory to rest on your actual house—as a defense over your marriage, your children, and everything that happens under your roof. The first step toward that is honesty: recognizing that spiritual streaks may be present even when everything looks fine on the surface.
Discussion Questions
- Why do you think God used something as visible as colored streaks in the walls to reveal a hidden spiritual problem?
- In what ways can a home “look good on the outside” while still carrying spiritual contamination that God sees?
- How does Isaiah 4:5 change the way you think about God’s presence in your physical house, not just in church services?
Cleaning the House
To drive chaos, strife, and demonic oppression out of the home, believers must move from passive frustration to active spiritual authority. In the Old Testament, when a house was infected with a persistent, destructive plague, God instituted a specific ordinance for the priest to cleanse and dedicate the dwelling with the blood of a sacrifice and running water.
"And he shall take to cleanse the house two birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop: And he shall kill the one of the birds in an earthen vessel over running water: And he shall take the cedar wood, and the hyssop, and the scarlet, and the living bird, and dip them in the blood of the slain bird, and in the running water, and sprinkle the house seven times... and the house shall be clean." — Leviticus 14:49–53 (KJV)
Under the New Covenant, every believer is called to function as a spiritual priest in their own household. Spiritual cleansing is not symbolic superstition; it is an active enforcement of Christ’s finished work:
Anoint with Oil & Plead the Blood: Walk through every room and doorway, anointing them with oil as a physical point of contact while audibly declaring the protective, cleansing blood of Jesus over every boundary.
Serve Communion: Partake of the Lord’s Supper together at the family table, remembering Christ's broken body and shed blood to establish peace, covenant alignment, and unity.
Take Spiritual Authority: Stand boldly against every demonic foothold, spirit of division, or ungodly influence, commanding it to leave in the name of Jesus.
Establish God’s covenant ownership over your dwelling with a decisive declaration of spiritual allegiance:
"And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." — Joshua 24:15 (KJV)
Conclude the cleansing by speaking the priestly blessing over your family and the physical walls of your home:
"The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace." — Numbers 6:24–26 (KJV)
- What physical objects, entertainment, or persistent relational conflicts are currently in your home that need to be removed or confronted before spiritually dedicating the space?
Action step:
When will you set aside dedicated time this week to gather your household, serve communion, and physically walk through each room to anoint it with oil and pray?
- What specific words will you begin speaking daily over your children, spouse, and home environment?
What Opens the Door
In Pastor Franklin’s message he emphasized the importance of spiritually cleansing our homes, our dwelling places, so that God’s glory would reside and be a defense to the enemy. In doing such we must look at ‘What Opens the Door’.
Let’s review things that may be causing an entryway into our lives, noting it can be as ‘simple’ as letting our flesh (human state) be in control rather than depending on the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us.
James 3:16 - "For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice"
When we compromise our walk with the Lord, we are in danger of aligning ourselves with the world and inviting the enemy to be in control; be that through friends or through our own accord. Perhaps we have walked back into things we’ve been delivered from. We must be alert and evaluate ourselves and those with whom we spend time. Are we presenting the way we live for the Lord’s approval?
Even our compromise in small or hidden things is as rebellion to God. When we replace God’s authority with our own human self-will it is considered witchcraft.
1 Samuel 15:23 - For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.”
We are a world that has become tolerant of things that God has not approved, with fear that we will be viewed intolerant if we don’t agree with the world.
However, we must remember who our enemy is: 1 Peter 5:8, says: "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour".
Consider how we speak, are we truthful or deceptive, even in small things? Flirting with sin can weaken our restraint and affect our moral mindset as well as our behavior.
- Some of us may not be tempted by hard-core drug use, or blatant pornography, however, what are things that seem innocent that may be open doors to which we give access to the enemy without realizing it?
- Where are you most vulnerable? Your mind, workplace, hobby or recreation?
- How do we prevent the enemy from invading our dwelling places?
Conclusion
As we close, let’s remember that it is important not only to examine ourselves and our households, but also to act on what we find. As Pastor Franklin said, “…there is no amount of paint or wallpaper that we can put over sin that would prevent the disease of that sin from coming through.”
We must recognize sin for what it is and take intentional steps to remove it from our lives and homes. Jesus has given us authority over the enemy, and we should not be afraid to exercise that authority with confidence, trusting in His promises and power.
Call To Action:
- Examine yourself and ask the question: Is there any evidence of sin sickness in my life or in my home?
- Commit yourself to surrender to what God in these areas and remove the attitudes, objects, or circumstances that leave us exposed.
- Spend time in your Bible each day to hear the Lord’s voice for purity and guidance in making righteous choices.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in how you can apply the things you are learning to be freed from the addiction and disease of these sins.
- Journal what God is doing in your life and how you are responding to Him.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your perfect faithfulness. We praise You because You are worthy of all our praise, and Your mercies are new every day.
Thank You for not abandoning us to our sin or the consequences of being exposed to it. Thank You for the gift of Jesus, whose sacrifice on the cross gives us victory, forgiveness, and healing. Thank You for Your Word, which guides us and helps us recognize the evidence of sin in our lives and families.
Most of all, thank You for the gift of Your Spirit, who empowers us to overcome the effects of sin—whether it began with us or was passed down through others. Give us the courage and wisdom to remove anything from our lives and homes that perpetuates sin and help us recommit ourselves to living in purity and obedience to You.
In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
