Your Tongue, Your Arms

Psalm 45:1 (NIV)
“For the director of music. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil. A wedding song. My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.”
Devotion
Your tongue as a Christian is one of the most powerful weapons God has given you, not to curse, criticize, or tear others down, but to speak life, build up, and bless. When you’re in trouble, use your tongue to call on the name of the Lord. Speak to Him, He hears you, and He will bring you out.
You also have your tongue to glorify God, to encourage others to follow His will, and to declare His goodness to the world. Be joyful and thankful for this gift. With your tongue, you can magnify our Almighty God and bring hope to those around you.
Consider the sons of Korah. Though they came from a rebellious lineage, descendants of the man who led a revolt against God’s chosen leadership in Numbers 16, they chose a different path. Instead of following in the footsteps of their ancestor Korah, they chose to serve the Lord. Their names are attached to some of the most beautiful Psalms in the Bible. In songs like Psalm 42 ("As the deer pants for streams of water...") and Psalm 84 ("How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty"), they used their tongues not to complain or rebel, but to exalt the goodness of God.
They remind us that no matter where we come from, we can choose to speak life and truth. We can rise above our past and honor God with our words.
Be still, our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Others have gone through hardship too, but God delivered them. As He did it for them, He will do it for you. Use your tongue, talk to Him. Praise Him. He will show you the way.
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of my tongue. Help me to use it wisely, to bless, not to curse; to praise, not to complain; to speak faith, not fear. Just like the sons of Korah, may I rise above anything in my past and choose to glorify You with my words. Teach me to declare Your truth in every situation, and let my words be full of grace and life. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
Speak life, over yourself, your family, your future, and even your challenges. Use your tongue to declare the promises of God, to pray with faith, and to praise Him out loud. Like the sons of Korah, let your words become a testimony of God’s goodness and grace.
