With Or Without You

Genesis 3:9 (NKJV)
“Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
Devotion
Do we suppose that prior to the episode in today’s theme scripture, God never had to ask Adam where he was? God constantly called Adam’s name, as we constantly call our spouses’ names because we are in daily communion with each other, daily conversation.

When children are young and they do something wrong to their parents; perhaps being disobedient, parents will often confront them about it. They won’t let it slide. And as expected, children who are confronted for wrongdoing will be fearful, because they know they did something wrong, and they fear the consequences. Yet, parents in not playing a blind eye to acts of disobedience teach their children that even when they have done wrong, the truth is better than lies. This valuable lesson leads to admission, repentance and restoration.

God was no different here. God was confronting Adam not because He wanted to dole out the consequences or punishment for the disobedience, but so that Adam would come to God willingly, and not hide, or attempt to cover it up, then God could correct the error.

We choose not to sin, yet we do sin. We would rather call out to God first, instead of waiting for Him to reach out to us. We know when we sin before God, and we also know that when we do not confess it to Him, an anxiety befalls us. The sin, the transgression, the disobedience weighs heavy on us. God doesn’t want that. God wants us to come to Him always, regarding anything and everything that concerns us, our families, and our relationship with Him.

With God, there is no shame. (Genesis 2:25)

Without God, there is shame. (Genesis 3:10)

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

In adoration I come before You. Humbly I ask You to forgive me for all the times I have sinned and failed to run to You and seek Your forgiveness and guidance. Please give me Your wisdom as I daily seek to live by the full truth of Your Word. However, when I do fail, help me to remember to quickly humble myself before You, repent, and seek the wisdom that only my Father can give. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
