With Eyes To See

John 4:35 (NKJV)
“Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!”
Devotion
The signs of the times are upon us. Jesus said in the last days there would be wars and rumors of wars, famine, pestilences, earthquakes, lawlessness and the love of many would grow cold. Yet among all these signs, there is a prevalent one that is dear to the Father’s heart, which we may not have been paying attention to - the Lord’s Harvest.

Throughout the gospels God revealed His desire to draw all men to Himself, so they may receive eternal life. This age is quickly coming to an end and the race is on against time, for people to be saved. Jesus himself said, ‘I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.’ “ (John 9:4)

In John 4:35, Jesus said, ‘lift up your eyes and look at the fields’. This indicates we have not been looking at the bigger, more weightier picture right in front of us, being much too captivated by the daily details of our lives. The Lord of the Harvest says that the field is ripe – people are ready, hungry, looking for a better life and purpose for their days. One can see it in their faces. If we do not point them to Christ now, this could be their last chance before they meet eternity.

Why do our eyes not see? It is in hearing the Father’s heart, that we will see His vision. Let it be our cry today, ‘Lord, I come before You and say, ‘hineni’ (Hebrew). ‘I am here’. I surrender to what You would ask of me, before I even know what it is. I desire to partner with You and share in Your burden. Use me as a lighthouse to shine the way home to You. Let me share in Your compassion for the hurting and the lost. Guide my steps and use the abilities You have given me to win others to Christ. With a transparent and honest heart, Lord, I say, ‘Here I am, use me.'

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
I confess the fields do not look ripe to me. Forgive me for my lack of faith. In my natural vision, I see unbelief, bondage, hatred of God. I see bad soil, rocky soil, thorns and thistles, unplowed ground that needs to be broken up. Lord God, open my eyes so that I can see the fields ready for harvest. And open my heart and eyes to do the harder work in fields that are still in earlier stages of preparation. Oh Lord, I believe. Help me overcome my unbelief. In the Name of Jesus, I Pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

Today’s verses and devotional speak of not putting off our participation in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). Are you not feeling it? Heed Jesus’ words and look up. Pray that God would give you His vision, the people He wants you to reach out to, the people He wants you to partner with to increase your fruitfulness. As you take steps in obedience, you may find that the Holy Spirit fills you with love and compassion for those to whom you are sent.
