When Words Are Few, God Still Hears
Monday, February 16
Matthew 6:7 (NKJV)
“And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
Devotion
You will never have to convince God to listen or hear you. Your prayers don’t need to be persuasive or full of tactfully placed adjectives or embellishments. An honest prayer is all you need.
There will be moments when we don’t even have the words to express our needs or when we are in deep sorrow. “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” Romans 8:26
Not only do we pray in grief and in joy, for friends and for family, but we are told to pray for those who are against us. Finding the words to pray for those who hurt you can be a humbling task. “But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” Matthew 5:44.
Seek to align yourself and your prayers with Scripture. Always remember that a short prayer is more powerful than choosing not to pray.
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I come to You as I am, not with religious or repetitious words, but I come to You with a true and open heart. Thank You for caring for me. It’s not in my many words, but my heart is what You hear. Thank You. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
Prayer is simply having a conversation with God. Get used to being transparent, open, and honest with Him. More than the words, He hears your heart when you pray. And when you take His Word and speak it with a heart full of faith—not vain repetition—He will move mountains to perform those words for you.
