Utter Only Wise Words

Numbers 13:32 (NKJV)

“And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature.”

Devotion

When the Israelites escaped the land of Egypt, it was the Lord who brought them out and saved them from the hands of Pharaoh. Yet, when they got to the wilderness, they doubted that the same God who brought them out was ready to take them safely to Canaan, the land flowing with milk and honey. They rebelled against God. Moses became a pawn in their hands. “Why did you not let us remain in Egypt? It would have been better if we had died in Egypt” (Numbers 14:2–3), they murmured and grumbled. Acquainted with a place that was not for them, they preferred to go back there rather than face any form of turmoil and forge ahead. 

Most times, the road on which God directs you to tread is thoroughly rough and bumpy. But if you are reminded that He said He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5), holding fast to His words and reminding Him, “Lord, remember Your words and Your promises…,” He will definitely help you sail through and get to what lies ahead.

Daily, caution and care must be applied to our words because they could heal, break, or build. The children of Israel uttered words that diminished their faith and trust in God. Their words dishonored and angered God. He wanted to strike them, but Moses interceded, and God pardoned them (Numbers 14:19–20). However, there were consequences: they were not able to step into the land that was sworn to their fathers. That is why only Caleb and Joshua entered the land of Canaan.

We do not manifest things in our lives; we come into agreement with what God has already spoken. All good things come from Him and Him alone. Let us bring our words into alignment with what God has spoken over us and watch God turn things around for our good.

Today's Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

I believe what You said in Your Word over what I see and experience in my life today. As I believe, therefore, I speak: Your Word does not return to You without accomplishing what You said it would do. You are a mighty God. There is none like You. You declare the end from the beginning and have said Your counsel will stand, that You will do all Your pleasure. So accomplish Your good pleasure, Your will, Lord, in my life today. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

Find Scriptures that cover what you are asking the Lord for today. Meditate on them and speak them out loud. (“For faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Romans 10:17) Then, use these verses in prayer to cover your request. God honors His own Word because He does not lie. (See Hebrews 1:3.)
