The Sacred Act Of Communion

Monday, May 26

Matthew 26:26 (NIV)
“While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
Devotion

The Lord’s Supper, also called the Eucharist or Communion, carries deep meaning in its many names. As the Lord’s Supper, it recalls the Passover meal Jesus shared with His disciples and points to his sacrifice. As the Eucharist, it prompts us to give thanks for His redemptive work. As Communion, it unites us with God and in community with fellow believers. When we partake in Communion, we reflect on Christ’s death, give thanks for his grace, and rejoice in his promised return! It’s not just about the physical act of eating and drinking but the Holy Spirit moves among us, making this more than a ritual.

The broken bread echoes the breaking of Jesus’ body on the cross, a sacrifice that invites sober reflection. Communion is not a mere symbol; it is a sacred moment where the Holy Spirit draws us closer to God and one another.

As you participate in Communion, pause to quietly reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice and invite the Holy Spirit to renew your heart. Release any grudges or unforgiveness toward others, and examine your own life for bitterness or ingratitude, surrendering these to the Lord. Embrace and receive God’s grace. Let this sacred act deepen your connection with God and fellow believers.
