The Promise

Acts 2:39 (NIV)
“The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off —for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
Devotion
Acts chapter two is an amazing story of how thousands were added to the New Testament church in just one day. In this chapter, Peter pleads with others that Jesus is the risen Messiah. The crowd responds asking what they should do (2:37). Peter tells them to repent of their sins and to be baptized. It’s then that they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (2:38). Peter goes on to tell them that the promise is not only for them as individuals but for their households and for the Gentiles across the world.

Acts 2:39 captures the inclusive nature of God's promise. Peter's proclamation isn't limited to a select few but extends to everyone—both present and future, near and far. It's a promise not just for those who stood before Peter that day but for their children and for all who would come to know the Lord, no matter the distance or circumstance.

This verse serves as a reminder that God's invitation isn't exclusive or confined. It's for individuals, families, and entire communities—reaching across generations and cultures. No one is beyond God’s saving hand! Romans 5:20 tells us where sin increased, grace increased more! The Acts 2:39 promise encompasses the vastness of God's love and grace, inviting all to partake in the transformative power of the Holy Spirit.

The beauty of Acts chapter two lies not only in the rapid growth of the early church but also in the inclusivity of God's promise. And as Pastor Jentezen shared with us, you have more than enough Lamb, so share with your neighbor and extend the invitation to everyone you encounter. Remember, God's love knows no limits!

Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank You for the promise of the Holy Spirit given in response to my obedience in repentance and baptism. I trust Your Word, but I confess I don't always feel the confidence or boldness of the disciples in the book of Acts. Lord God, show me what I need to do differently to bridge the disconnect between how I feel and see myself and what I see from those filled with your Spirit in Scripture. Help me to step out in bold obedience, trusting You, even when I don't see how all the dots will connect. Give me the gift of prophecy, including the right Scripture at the right time, to cut to the hearts of my audience so they will know and recognize that God has spoken to them through me.
In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen

Apply It Today
As you go through your day, pay attention to those around you. Pray for someone because you notice them, not because you think they might be ready for Jesus.
Jesus explained in the parable of the lost sheep, that he will go to help the straggler who is far afield. His love and power reach far beyond our inclination to limit him.
