Tell Them The Good News

Sunday, August 18

Romans 10:14 (NLT)
“But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?”
Devotion
In this day and age we become afraid of speaking the truth. We want to water it down and make it palatable and not so harsh (by ever-changing human standards). But sin is real, and people all around us are hurting. The call to repent, be baptized, and receive the Holy Spirit is the best invitation ever!

People may be uncomfortable when they feel a light is shone on them – but our spiritual enemies often play a role in a negative response to stop them from being led out of the darkness. But Jesus sees their sin, it is not hidden to him. Tell them there is an answer. They don't have to keep hiding or wandering in the darkness anymore.

Do not be afraid of the outward response. Peter spoke filled with the Holy Spirit and some mocked him. But the hearts of others were opened. People need to hear that Jesus requires repentance, but he is the very one who provides the miracles to repent and change. Jesus’ blood was shed so that, through trust in him, we could be reconciled to God and healed in our mind, in our will, in our self-image, in our bodies, in our work, in our daily life, and in our relationships.

This goes for our families as well. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life for those closest to us, not just people “out there” in the world. Are we speaking Jesus?

Jesus is coming back to judge the living and the dead! As the time draws closer for his coming the more imperative it is to reach others. People don't need religion, they need Jesus. How will they hear about him? Tell them your testimony and what he has done for you. Share Jesus’ words and point them to the Bible; encourage them to pray and reach out to Jesus to show them the truth.

Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Jesus and for my beautiful feet that bring good news. I confess that I am often afraid, and sometimes unprepared when You bring opportunities to speak Jesus. Help me learn all the stages of evangelism: plowing the hardened ground, sowing the seed of Jesus, watering through love and prayer, and closing the deal in harvest and baptism. Show me through Your Holy Spirit where to focus at each opportunity, and help me learn the applicable Scriptures. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today
Even if you haven’t been the one to speak up for Jesus in the past, you can step into a new role as one who brings good news. Recall that Matthias, a disciple who had been with Jesus and the others the whole time, stepped into a new role as one of the twelve. Regardless of your natural or spiritual calling in life, are you willing to be someone who tells others, so they can believe and call on the Name of Jesus?
