Spiritual Value In Natural Adversity

Wednesday, May 31

Exodus 10:13 (NKJV)
So Moses stretched out his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind on the land all that day and all that night. When it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. .
Devotion
In this and several Bible passages, an east wind brings correction or judgment (here, leading up to the Exodus). When God allows correction, judgment, tears, or trials, it is not to destroy you but to bring you closer to Him. God is in charge of the timing and strength of such winds.

We prefer winds of blessing, comfort, and provision. If we experience only the winds of struggle, we can end up bitter, and that is not useful. But God uses all of it to make us trustworthy for his future purposes and blessing. Scripture is God-breathed and powerful to help us toward this end (2 Timothy 3:16). Worship and prayer during adversity increase our spiritual power and faith.

Todays Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,

I trust you. As I walk through this valley, surrounded by so many threats as the wind of adversity blows, I hold on to your unchanging nature. You promised to never leave me nor forsake me, I believe you are with me even now. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Apply It Today
If we’re not careful, we pray only for God to stop the winds we don’t like. Let us also pray to know the path forward and to agree with the Father to work His purpose in us, so that we can be trustworthy and blessed.
