Speak Your Grace

Wednesday, September 6

 John 4:13-14
Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
Devotion
A spring is a source that keeps producing water. If a person will never be spiritually thirsty again when they receive Jesus Christ as Lord, why would He refer to the water He gives as a spring? One reason is that God’s grace is not meant to stop with you. God wants to demonstrate His grace and set others free through you.

The grace of God is given for the forgiveness of sins and the power to overcome sin and live a life pleasing to God (Titus 2:11-12). The woman Jesus spoke to in today’s verse asked Jesus for this living water. She was forgiven for many sins. She did not hide the grace she had received. Instead, she eagerly told others in her town what Jesus had done for her. Many came to know that Jesus is the Messiah through her introduction.

Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank You for Your grace that teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions. I thank You for the gift of faith and Your promise of a spring of water welling up to eternal life. I confess that my fears and failures have often kept me from speaking the grace of Jesus to others. Empower me by Your Holy Spirit to speak boldly and to trust that Your word through me will accomplish Your purposes. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today
Take a moment right now to remember how good God has been, how faithful He has been, how He has provided for you, and how He has given you more than you ever deserved. Now speak of His grace – give thanks to God in this moment and look for opportunities to tell others what He has done for you.
