Sin – The Enemy God Promises To Defeat
Tuesday, August 29
2 Samuel 5:18-19 NKJV
The Philistines also went and positioned themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. So David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?" And the LORD said to David, "Go up, for I will certainly deliver the Philistines into your hand."
Devotion
Israel was promised victory over the nations of Canaan (including the Philistines) if they would seek God and fight their battles as the Lord directed. Likewise, followers of Jesus are promised victory in our battles with our flesh and sin if we surrender ourselves to Jesus and fight the battles as Scripture directs. There are no asterisks – no fine print.
The New Testament promises followers of Jesus, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation, will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV) Jesus didn't just bleed to forgive your sin; he bled to heal your will and your walk and give you victory over sin.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I come before You seeking strength and guidance in my battles. Just as Israel was promised victory by seeking You, I surrender to Your will, knowing victory over my struggles is through You. I trust Your faithfulness, seeking the way of escape from temptations. With the support of fellow believers, I stand strong, asking for Your battle plan to overcome sin. Thank You for Your love and empowerment. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
Apply It Today
Ask the Lord to show you the way to escape and victory each time you are tempted to sin. When you are tempted, confess your weakness to Jesus as well as to trusted brethren and ask for them to stand with you in prayer for strength. Ask God to show you the battle plan for victory over your temptations and sins.
