Our Vine

Genesis 49:22-23 NIV
“Joseph is a fruitful vine,
a fruitful vine near a spring,
whose branches climb over a wall.
With bitterness archers attacked him;
they shot at him with hostility.
Devotion
A vine is a very enduring plant. It is difficult to make it stop growing. Even if there is a physical barrier in its way, it continues to grow up and over the barrier. In today’s scripture, Joseph is described as a vine whose branches climb over a wall. He doesn’t let the attacks that come his way stop him. He doesn’t let false accusations or physical barriers get in the way of what God has prepared for him. Instead, he gets past all that comes his way. He moves and grows past it to get to the other side. In the same way, we need to keep pressing forward when things seem difficult and when there are barriers in our way. Thankfully, we don’t have to do this on our own.

In John 15:5, Jesus tells us, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.” We don’t have to try to be the vine, and we don’t have to try to get over things on our own. As long as we abide in Jesus, remain attached to our vine, and follow His path, He will provide us with the direction, endurance, and strength we need to overcome any obstacles or difficulties that come our way.

Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Seeing Joseph's strength as a fruitful vine, I'm inspired to face my own barriers and bitterness. Just as Joseph's branches climbed over walls, guide me to overcome adversities through my faith in You. In times of challenge, remind me that I am a branch of Your vine, Jesus, and with Your presence, I can bear fruit even when I face trials. Help me remain steadfast in You, drawing strength, endurance, and direction, for apart from You, I can do nothing. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today
Just as Joseph didn't let bitterness define his path, seek to overcome any bitterness or hostility you encounter. Instead of dwelling on negative emotions, focus on the bigger picture and the purpose God has for you. Just as a vine flourishes near a spring, draw from the spiritual nourishment of God's Word to prevent bitterness from taking root in your heart.
