Heed The Trumpets Call

Monday, August 19

‭‭1 Corinthians 14:8 (NIV)
“Again, if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle?”
Devotion
Trumpets are mentioned all throughout Scripture and serve many purposes. They symbolize a call to action, celebration, prayer and awakening. God uses trumpets all throughout His Word to direct His people where He wants them to go and how He wants to fulfill His purpose through them.

The trumpet of the Lord is sounding loud and it is clear. God is not a god of confusion so neither should His people be. God’s Word is His Will. We never need to question that. We can always be sure of this one thing, that His Word is true and it never changes. In a time of confusion God is calling His people to speak the truth.

In a culture of chaos, it can seem that the hardest thing to do is speak the truth. Yet we can be humbly confident that when we speak the truth knowing that truth is a person, Jesus Christ, the infallible Word of God, it will do what it does best, set people free (John 8:32, John 14:6).

Truth and love are synonymous. It is loving to speak the truth. It is neither kind nor compassionate to lie or hold it back. Loving is not affirmation of sin or disorder. Telling the truth in a time of deception is a revolutionary act and we must live it out through the power of the Holy Spirit.

God sounds a clear trumpet call for us to take watch and take action. We are His watchmen as Ezekiel 33 explains. We have a sacred responsibility to sound the trumpet clear to a perishing people that are on their way to eternal separation from God. The Bible is very clear that if we do not, their blood will be on our hands. There will never be an excuse to not stand.

Proverbs 24:11-12 tells us to “Deliver those who are drawn away to death, and those who totter to the slaughter, hold them back [from their doom]. If you [profess ignorance and] say, Behold, we did not know this, does not He Who weighs and ponders the heart perceive and consider it? And He Who guards your life, does not He know it? And shall not He render to [you and] every man according to his works?”
Be encouraged! When we stand for God, He will doubtlessly stand for us! “In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides].” Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭10‬ .

Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for choosing us to be a watchman among Your people. We look to You, King Jesus. Open our eyes, Lord to see, our ears to hear and melt away everything that hinders us from serving You in our lives. Make us sensitive to Your voice and direction. Let fear and confusion depart from our lives at this very moment in Jesus’ name! We receive Your Spirit of courage. Let Your discernment and wisdom be our guide in a dark world. Lord Jesus, we draw our strength from You. Arise in our lives and let every lying spirit depart in the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Apply It Today
As you go through your day, be attentive to the "trumpet calls" in your life. These could be opportunities to stand up for truth, moments to share the gospel, or situations where you need to speak with love and clarity in a world full of confusion. Ask God to give you the courage and wisdom to respond to His call with boldness and love.
