God’s Blessing To Multiply
Tuesday, September 10
Genesis 1:21-22 (NKJV)
“So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”
Devotion
God, our Creator, who made the heavens and the earth, also made the things that creep upon the earth, fly in the skies, and swim in the seas. He saw that all this was good. Whereby, He implemented the blessing of multiplication - the ability for each of these kinds to reproduce - the blueprint being in each seed of its kind, hidden even inside you and me.
The seeds that God placed inside of us originate from His Life, and go beyond the physical bearing of children. It includes such things as the ability to fulfill His purpose, walk out His nature, and express the godly gifts and talents He placed in each one of us, to be used for His glory and His kingdom.
So, how do I multiply?
The instructions He gave us are simple. Use what is already in your hand (or heart).
- Gifts and talents – If you know you have an innate, natural ability to lead, to be hospitable, to work with numbers, to communicate, etc., surrender these gifts and talents to the Lord, and use them for His glory. He will multiply what you give Him. He will cause the right doors to open and connections to be made. His purpose in you will be fulfilled. And He will call this ‘good’ when His seed is used.
- The fruit of the Spirit – We are to walk in love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness and self-control. For those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-24) Within us God has placed the capability to express His nature in the most adverse circumstances. Sow the seed of love (patience, kindness, forgiveness, peace) and watch how it will push back the darkness. As a seed, God will multiply its effect in the people and the circumstances around you.
- The Word of God - His word is like a seed. (Matthew 13:18-23) They are also spirit, and they are life. (John 6:63) Speak the Word of God out of your mouth to bring life to your situation. “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart (that is the word of faith which we preach)…” (Romans 10:8) Sow the seed and He will multiply the seed sown.
- The high praises of God - Switch from being on the defense to being on the offense. Let the praises of God be in your mouth to pierce the darkness around you. “Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand.” (Psalm 149:6)
We have so much seed available to use. Sow the seed and God will multiply!
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank You for creating everything in the universe and on the earth. I thank You for creating all the living things with Your blessing to be fruitful and multiply and increase in number to fill the seas, sky, and land. I thank You that through Jesus You have extended Your good commission from Genesis 1 to Your great commission of Matthew 28. I confess that I have not been as faithful or as fruitful as I could have been in the work of being a disciple of Jesus or making disciples for Jesus. Thank You for the seed still within me. Lord God, help me to plow up the fallow ground. Help me to plant Your seeds through faithfulness in speaking Your Word. Help me water Your seeds through love and prayer and service. Lord God, in spite of my failures and weaknesses, work Your miracles of making Your seed grow in the hearts of those I love and pray for and serve. And at the right time, let there be a harvest of souls for Your kingdom from those I have loved and served. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
