Worship Denotes Worth

Psalm 34:1-3 (ESV)
“I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!”
Devotion

David, the shepherd boy and future king, knew both the joys and struggles of everyday life. But he knew that God is good and worthy of praise whether a moment is difficult or exuberant. He knew that there is no better way to submit to the Lord and commit to Him than through His worship.

The English word “worship” comes from the Old English word “worthship,” a word that denotes the worthiness of the one receiving the special honor or devotion. Think about that; when we worship Him, we are telling God that He is worthy of our time, honor, and devotion regardless of our circumstances. Our prayers, reading and studying His Word, serving in ministry, loving others through our actions, singing songs of praise, or simply offering our gratitude to Him, are all forms of worship to the King of kings and Lord of lords.

David worshiped the Lord because he found Him worthy, Likewise, your worship, or the lack thereof, denotes His worth to you.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
I confess to You that I don’t give You the worship You deserve. I ask forgiveness for my lackadaisical attitude in this area. I come to You determined to build up a lifestyle of praise because You are worthy. I love You and praise You for who You are and all that You do for me, both the obvious and the unnoticed. I sing praises to Your name for Your steadfast love and Your goodness to me even when I am entirely undeserving. I worship You for ______, (tell Him the reasons). In the Holy Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

With elation, the crowds celebrated Jesus as their King. They are in awe of him, singing his praises and worshiping Him; . . . just a few days later these same people are yelling, “Crucify Him!!!”
Does your Sunday worship and awe of the Lord last throughout the week, or do you crucify Him all over again by the choices you make or simply by ignoring Him? Are you able to bless the Lord at all times, even during the hard ones? Begin today spending intimate time worshiping Him and continue throughout this week, truly praising Him for who He is and all He does for you. Make it a lifestyle because HE IS WORTHY.
