El Shaddai

John 6:12-13 (ESV)
“And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.” So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten.”
Devotion
The King of kings and the Lord of lords is not a barely get by God. Our God is El Shaddai, the all-sufficient God, the God of more than enough. In our featured verse today, we see our El Shaddai at work. There was more than enough food to feed the multitudes.
David knew his El Shaddai provided more than enough power to kill Goliath with his stones. There was more than enough of El Shaddai’s power to protect Joseph in his hardships, as he was raised to a place of high status. El Shaddai provided more than enough grace for the woman at the well. He was more than enough to place the Savior in the womb of a young virgin girl. El Shaddai’s power was more than enough to raise Jesus from the dead.
As such, the blood of Jesus is more than enough for our healing and health. His death and resurrection are more than enough to bring salvation to our families. He is powerful enough to save the world. Walking in his wisdom, boldness, and discernment is more than enough to guide us in leading others to him.
Regardless of how bad the current state of the world is, and no matter which evils life throws directly at us, the Lamb of God is more than enough to sustain us. Even when we seem to have it all, there is still an emptiness that only he can fill. He alone is more than enough.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I praise You for being my El Shaddai, the God of more than enough. You have proven this time and again in my life, and for that I praise You and give You glory, honor, and thanksgiving. When life is joyous and wonderful, I can easily see that You are more than enough. And, when life is the darkest, I know and believe that You, El Shaddai, will sustain me, and I stand on that fact. I offer my praises to You for all You do for me and my family. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
Walking with God does not mean we will be free from hard times, but Deuteronomy 28:2 says, “All these blessings shall come upon and overtake you because you obey the voice of the Lord your God.” and it goes on to list some of the blessings. Be encouraged today to begin a daily habit of reading the Word of God. Jot down any points that resonate with you or that you feel you need to work on and apply yourself to grow in your relationship with the Lord. Your blessings await.
