Discernment Of Spirits

Thursday, October 17

Jude 1:19-21 (ESV)
“It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.”
Devotion

Now more than ever, we must ask God to give us the gift of discernment of spirits. Those in the world who are devoid of the Holy Spirit, especially those with a platform, will twist everything to try to cause us to believe their lies and turn from the truth, in our personal lives, in family matters, in our churches, in our political votes, and in every area of life until they pull us away from God and His ways in those areas and more.

The gift of discernment of spirits is a gift that the Holy Spirit will give to every believer who asks. It makes it much easier to distinguish the holy voices of God and His angels and ministers from the evil voices of the enemy and those within the world whom satan uses for his purpose. From the many non-Holy Spirit filled voices trying to sway us to their way of thinking, the discernment we receive from the Lord will help us distinguish the truth from the lies, and God’s ways from satan’s ways, regardless how the world tries to manipulate us to side with them.

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit speaking through a self-proclaimed prophet, leader, or personalities with a platform; instead test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets and teachers have gone out into the world. Little children, believers, & dear ones, you are of God, and you belong to Him and have already overcome them [the agents of the antichrist]; because He who is in you is greater than Satan who is in the world [of sinful mankind]. They who teach twisted doctrine (and tell lies as truth) are of the world and belong to it; therefore, they speak from the viewpoint of the world with its immoral freedom and baseless theories—demanding compliance with their opinions and ridiculing the values of the upright, and the [gullible ones of the] world listens closely and pays attention to them.” 1 John 4:1, 4-5 AMP.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank You for Your gift of the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me away from the influence of those who are devoid of the spirit. May Your Spirit forever guide me in every action, influence, and in every area of my life that all I do may align with You and Your Word. This is a personal matter, and as long as my choices are Biblical ones, it matters not what others may think. I long to please You, alone. Please guide me in doing so. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

Read 1 John 4:1, 4-5 again, and jot down any of your ways that come to mind that you know do not align fully with the Word of God. Take them to Him in prayer, and pray to be filled and led by the Holy Spirit so you can make the needed changes. Remember, this is personal, between you and God, and He is the only one you need to please.
