A Sure Way To Win

Joshua 11:7-10 (NIV)
“So Joshua and his whole army came against them suddenly at the Waters of Merom and attacked them, and the LORD gave them into the hand of Israel. They defeated them and pursued them all the way to Greater Sidon, to Misrephoth Maim, and to the Valley of Mizpah on the east, until no survivors were left. Joshua did to them as the LORD had directed: He hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots. At that time Joshua turned back and captured Hazor and put its king to the sword. (Hazor had been the head of all these kingdoms.)”
Devotion

The passage in Joshua 11 reveals a powerful truth about God’s faithfulness to His people. Joshua faced formidable enemies, well-equipped armies, with horses and chariots, and kings who led entire regions. To any ordinary person, the odds of success in such a battle would seem slim. But Joshua had something greater on his side: the promise and direction of God.
When we face battles in life, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, we often see the overwhelming strength of our problems. We might be tempted to doubt whether we can overcome. But the story of Joshua reminds us that victory doesn't depend on the size or power of the enemy, but on the God who fights for us. It was the LORD who gave these mighty armies into Israel's hand.
God doesn’t just promise us victory, He also directs our steps in the battle. Notice that Joshua didn’t rely on his own strategy, he followed the LORD’s commands exactly, even when they seemed strange, like hamstringing horses and burning chariots. These actions rendered the enemy powerless, ensuring Israel’s long-term success. When we obey God, even in the face of uncertainty or when His ways seem unconventional, we position ourselves to experience His victory.
Perhaps you’re facing a battle today that feels impossible. It could be a challenge in your family, finances, health, or even in your faith. Like Joshua, you might feel outnumbered and under-equipped. But take heart, God is with you, and He will grant you victory. All you need to do is trust Him and obey His leading.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the God of victory. Just as You fought for Joshua and gave him success, I trust that You are fighting for me in my battles. Help me to follow Your direction and to place my confidence in You, knowing that You will see me through to victory. Strengthen my faith to believe in Your promises and to rely on Your strength, not my own. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

When facing challenges, intentionally seek God's guidance before making decisions. Just as Joshua followed God's directions to secure victory, we too must align our actions with His will. Spend time in prayer, asking God for wisdom and clarity in your situation.
