A Royal Priesthood

1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

Devotion

Peter reminds us of who we are in Christ. We are chosen, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and God’s special possession. This identity comes with a purpose: to declare His praises.

A priest represents God and serves Him. As believers, our lives should point people toward Christ through the way we live, speak, love, and serve. We have received His light so that we can carry that light to others. This connects with Isaiah 6:8, where Isaiah responded, “Here am I. Send me!” God had called him, and Isaiah was willing to make himself available for whatever God asked. 

In the same way, God has called, equipped, and positioned each of us for a purpose. We may not all have a platform or a title, but we all have opportunities to represent Christ. Wherever we are, we can represent Him and make His love known. We are not simply saved for heaven; we are also called to serve, to shine, and to lead others toward His wonderful light in our generation. 

So today, let's remember who we are and why we are here. You don't have to wait for a perfect opportunity. Start where you are, with what God has already placed in your hands. You are chosen, and you have been called to declare His praises.

Today's Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for choosing us and calling us Your own. Help us to live with purpose and reflect Your light wherever You have placed us. Give us willing hearts to serve You and courage to say, “Here am I. Send me!” May our lives declare Your praises and point others to You. In the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
