A New Beginning
Monday, April 1
Genesis 8:4 (NIV)
“And on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.”
Devotion
Can you imagine how it felt to be in the ark? The world that was so full of chaos, and sin has been swallowed up! You have been tossed about in the storm, and have cried out to the only one who can save. At last you are rocking softly, and finally realize the safety of the ark. For days upon days you hear the creaking, and feel the swaying then at last it comes to a halt. Silence fills the air. You have come to a sure rest on the mountain at last. The water recedes and you walk out into a new world- a new beginning!
This is how it is to come to know Jesus! To be free of the world that brought so much chaos to your life, the entanglements of sin, and shame, to be rescued from the storm and rocked gently in the arms of a loving Father. Peace silences the voices of condemnation and you come to a surety that no matter what, you stand on a firm foundation! The old man has been drowned to be resurrected anew in Jesus. You are a new creation in Christ through his saving grace, and you are walking into a new life in him!
The ark was raised up out of the water of death on the 17th day of the seventh month- the same day of the resurrection of Jesus in the Jewish calendar (the 3rd day of the Passover). A foreshadow of salvation through our savior Jesus Christ. Noah and his family found a new beginning through God’s grace. This is what Jesus’ work on the cross did for us! If only we believe in Jesus as our ark/our savior! He invites us to a new life in him. Accept His free gift today, believe in the Lord Jesus and be saved!
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You remember me, just as You remembered Noah and his family in the ark when it came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Thank You that Jesus remembered me on the cross, and that I was engraved on the palm of his hands when they drove the nails through. Help me remember Jesus as he remembers me. Please forgive me for my sin, and help me find full repentance from my ongoing sins so I do not crucify the Son of God all over again and subject him to more public disgrace than I already have. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
God didn’t force the people outside the ark to get on, and he doesn’t force us, either. If you are reading this, God’s patience has provided an opportunity to repent before the final judgment. Praise God for that! Jesus said that he stands at the door and knocks (Revelation 3:20). Don’t let him pass you by.
