A Holy Interruption

Monday, April 24

Luke 9:10-12
And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted place here.

Devotion

Prior to verse ten, Jesus sent the twelve disciples out to minister on a “training mission.” In verse ten, the disciples returned and were eager to report to Jesus what they had experienced.

However, instead of Jesus getting time alone with His disciples in an isolated place, the crowds learned where Jesus was and followed him there. Jesus was not upset by the interruption of their plans. He even used the opportunity to teach the crowds about the Kingdom of God and minister to their needs.

How do you see people who interrupt your schedule? Are they disregarded as a nuisance, or do you view those “interruptions” as a means to minister? Sometimes, interruptions are an opportunity for God to show up and show Himself to be mighty even when we don't expect it.

Today’s Prayer

Dear God,

Help me to have a heart like yours. A heart more ready to serve than be served, a heart moved by compassion towards the weak and oppressed, a heart set upon the coming of your kingdom. Amen!

Apply It Today

Today, remember that as a disciple of Jesus, you are one of the ones that are left to carry on Jesus’ work in the world. When interruptions come, look for a way to minister.
