The Source Of Success

Deuteronomy 8:17-18 (NIV)

“You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.”

Devotion

One of the greatest dangers of success is forgetting the One who made it possible. When we begin to experience progress in our careers, businesses, education, personal lives, or finances, it can be easy to take pride in our abilities, hard work, wisdom, and accomplishments. While diligence and discipline are important, we must never think that our success is solely the result of our own strength or ability.

In Deuteronomy 8:17–18, God warned the Israelites against saying in their hearts, “My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.” Instead, He commanded them to remember Him, for it is He who gives them the power to get wealth. God was reminding His people that even their ability to work, create, make wise decisions, and prosper came from Him.

Scripture reveals God as the Maker of the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1; Psalm 121:2). He is also the Maker of humanity, the One who gives us life, breath, wisdom, strength, stature, and opportunities. Everything we have and every ability we possess ultimately comes from Him. The Bible also reminds us that promotion does not come from human effort alone, but that God is the One who raises one person up and brings another down (Psalm 75:6–7).

This does not mean we should become passive or neglect our responsibilities. Rather, we should work diligently, steward our resources faithfully, and pursue excellence while recognizing that God is the source of our abilities and opportunities. Our efforts matter, but they are not independent of His grace and favor.

Therefore, whether you are celebrating a promotion, growing a business, completing your education, or experiencing financial increase, never allow success to make you forget God. Every open door, every opportunity, and every achievement is a reason to give Him thanks. Gratitude keeps our hearts humble and reminds us that we are stewards of what God has entrusted to us, not the ultimate source of our own success.Live with a grateful heart, give Him the glory, and use what He has entrusted to you to honor Him and bless others.

Today's Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being the source of every good thing in my life. Forgive me for the times I have taken credit for what Your grace has enabled me to accomplish. Help me to remain humble, diligent, and grateful in every season. May I always remember that my abilities, opportunities, wealth, and promotion come from You. Teach me to use everything You have entrusted to me for Your glory. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
