Guiding Our Steps
Thursday, December 25
Psalm 37:23 (NKJV)
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way.”
Devotion
It is God’s delight to establish the steps of the righteous, directing their path and even supporting them when they stumble (vs. 24). He takes notice and takes pleasure in their lives.
So often in our lives we have need of direction. At times, it is hard to put one foot in front of the other, or to make decisions as to what is the next best thing to do. Life comes with many struggles and hard choices. We can rejoice in our God, who cares about and is familiar with our struggles. From the manger to the cross, Jesus experienced life as we know it as the son of man. God sees us and desires to be actively involved in our lives. We can trust that with His direction, outcomes will be productive in the best ways possible, although we may not always see it at first.
Even when we did not know Him, He was still intentional in our lives, guiding us towards Jesus like He did the three wise men. The three wise men, in the biblical account of the birth of Jesus in the gospels, were some of the greatest scholars of their time and studied science and astrology. God put a brilliant star shining in the east, which was to be a sign that the new born king of the Jews was born. The star directed their steps towards Bethlehem. They must have marveled at the thought that the birth of a king would be marked by a star in the heavens! Then, being warned by an angel to not return to Herod, they must have also realized that something was different about this babe king, that even angels would direct their journey home on his behalf. They sought to find the king born to the Jews, and God never disappoints when someone seeks Him. Mathew 6:33, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” Mathew 7:7–8, “Ask and it shall be given unto you, seek, and ye shall find, knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”
This Christmas day, stop and think about how the Lord has guided your steps over the years. Have you found Jesus in your journey? Perhaps He guided you to today’s devotion for that very reason! Do you need direction? Ask Him to order your path as you seek His kingdom and His righteousness. Merry Christmas!
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I worship You, Almighty God, Lord Jehovah, for sending the gift of salvation, Jesus Christ, to the world. Exalt the Bright and Morning Star, Jesus, in my heart, that I may find You and know You in a deeper way. Guide my footsteps now by Your precious Holy Spirit, and lead me in the way everlasting to do Your will and to follow in the path You prescribed for me. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
“Wise men still seek Him.” In this Christmas season, as we celebrate the entrance of God’s beloved Son into our world for eternal salvation, may we continue to seek Him with all our heart. For those who seek Him will find Him. He will not withhold, for He is faithful to His promise. (Ref.: Psalm 27:8; Jeremiah 29:13; Hebrews 10:35)
